Gloucestershire Orchard Barn

A Grade II listed detached stone barn near Newnham-on-Severn is a superb August 2008 conversion. Approached by a country lane and standing on the edge of its own 6 acre meadow (leading to ancient woodland) it is ideal for walking, bird watching, spotting deer etc or simply relaxing to watch the trees grow. It was formerly used for animal housing and fodder storage.  It is large and well appointed and can comfortably accommodate up to six adults (and a child) in three bedrooms.  Two double bedrooms (with ensuite shower rooms) are situated on the upper level, each having its own dedicated staircase.  A twin room and family bathroom complete the arrangements on the ground floor.  The sitting room is situated in the centre of the barn in the full height threshing bay with a vaulted oak-beamed ceiling.  Rural views can be enjoyed through large glazed doors front and back.  The fully fitted kitchen boasts a large gas range cooker for family gathering and is adjacent to the dining area.  Where possible, old features have been retained, and complemented by under-floor heating, a wood-burner and thoroughly modern appliances (dishwasher etc) throughout.  FREE WI-FI for internet access. Kent The Gun Emplacement

The Gun Emplacement is the nearest house to France. It's perched on the cliff top on Lighthouse Down, the National Trust's protected coastal expanse, which has come to be known as The White Cliffs. The house was built by the Army in 1910, Sir Peter Ustinov was billeted there during the Second War and he bought it from the Ministry of Defence in 1946. I bought it in 1977 and have used it as my seaside home.In 2000, it was extensively renovated inside and out and is now a very comfortable though not luxurious one-storey, centrally-heated residence in a unique location, with uninterrupted views across the Channel to Calais, gardens back and front and offers total peace in glorious unspoiled countryside. Lincolnshire Manor House Stables

The 'Manor House Stables' has been beautifully restored with natural earth-friendly materials using traditional methods.  Dating back to the 18th Century this Grade II Listed Stable Block now forms 2 units of qualitiy self-catering accommodation which can be rented separately or together.The ‘Hayloft’ is the newly restored first floor and is warm, welcoming and relaxing, with a wood- burning stove and cast iron radiators fed by a wood pellet boiler. The walls are insulated with battens of cotton and hemp and boards made of wood fibre whilst natural breathable paints and wood stains have been used on floors, doors and window frames. The large open plan living/kitchen area has exposed beams, lime-washed walls and real wood floors covered in braided wool rugs and recycled cotton mats. The sofa and chair coverings are cotton and linen – fabrics which are soft and natural and colours which are warm and earthy. A 26” HD ready TV and DVD/CD player and a selection of games, books and DVDs are all available for cosy nights in front of the fire. The kitchen is equipped with a Belfast sink, Rangemaster cooker, dishwasher, microwave, toaster and kettle as well as a range of quality kitchenware. A basket of organic veg freshly picked from the garden (or purchased from the local organic farm shop) awaits, along with other food items to ensure a relaxed and carefree break. Tucked away in a corner of the main room is a double 'box bed' - a bed boxed in by wood and enclosed by a curtain similar to those found in old-fashioned crofters' cottages and suitable for 2 children. The main bedroom has a double cast iron bed, small fireplace and a little en-suite bathroom with toilet and sink. The luxury mattresses are made of organic Welsh wool, the sheets are cotton (mostly organic) and the beds covered in bedspreads or quilts. The spacious main bathroom at the other end of the ‘Hayloft’ is a haven of peace and tranquility. Here you can soak in the deep copper bateau spa-bath whilst watching your favourite TV programme, relax in the sauna or freshen up in the steam shower. Chemical-free soaps and other luxuries are provided to make each stay a little more perfect...add to that chocolates, wine and fresh flowers and this is certain to be a very special break away.
