Formerly noted for it's production of silver, hemp and strawberries (there is still a strawberry fayre every year in mid June) it's natural harbour also promoted a thriving fishing and boat building industry. Today, farming and tourism in this unique area of Devon, are the two main areas of employment.
An excellent seaside holiday base, whether your interests lie in walking, riding, surfing, golfing, fishing or you just prefer to laze around on the many excellent beaches in the area. Combe Martin has several small secluded bays within a short walk of the village centre - a great favourite for children of all ages, especially at low tide when dozens of rock pools and large areas of sand are uncovered. Dogs are welcome on a restricted area of the beach during the summer.
There are numerous eateries, pub and visitor attractions within the village and plenty more in the surrounding area.
