The Suffolk coastline with its sand, shingle and mud flats stretches from Kessingland south to Felixstowe providing a wonderful habitat for birds. The RSPB Nature Reserve at Minsmere Marshes near Dunwich Common is a superb location to observe many rare birds on the Suffolk coast. Tough and spiky Marram grass has been planted in the sand dunes to help protect the marshland and reed beds from the sea. Other good places to visit along the coast for views and birds are Covehithe with its church with a partly thatched roof re-born from the ruins and materials of the original 15th century predecessor, Woodbridge and the burial ground of Sutton Hoo, and the nearby Constable country of Flatford and Dedham Vale.
