Sudbury is a fairly large town on the River Stour in Suffolk. Suffolk was wool country - wool being much in demand in the 14th century. The town flourished on the hard work of weavers in and around Sudbury.
One of Sudbury's most famous residents was Thomas Gainsborough, the portrait painter, whose father was a weaver. Gainsborough House is open to the public.
