Founded by the Romans, Cambridge is now one of Britain's most popular cities to visit. The University of Cambridge is one of Britain's most prestigious, with a lengthy history and the most magnificent and handsome buildings. Most visitors will take a look around the university and perhaps go for a walk along the River Cam. One fairly romantic but rather expensive thing to do is to sail on the river in a punt, accompanied by families of graceful swans and greedy ducks noisily waiting to share your picnic lunch. You might spot Cambridge's own 'Bridge of Sighs', modelled on the Venetian version. Alternatively, there's a pleasant walk along the river.
A very nice treat in Cambridge is to visit one of the several patisseries to indulge in their exquisite cakes and pastries. There are pubs and restaurants galore, the Fitzwilliam Museum, an excellent shopping centre, quaint bookshops and enough regular events to guarantee a lively and pleasant trip.
Because parking in the city centre can be difficult to find, Cambridge operates a Park and Ride service from selected points just outside the city.
