The Property: About Bluegate Farm Holiday Cottages
The country cottages at Bluegate Farm are two-storey, sleeping 4 - 6 people, one double room, one twin room and a sofabed. On the ground floor is a lovely, spacious, oak-beamed kitchen and dining area, fully equipped and with a rayburn oven giving you a warm welcome when you arrive. Also, on the ground floor is the twin bedroom with an en-suite shower room with toilet and sink. On the first floor is a light and airy lounge with an open pitched roof, a log burning stove (gas fuelled) set in a large brick fireplace, overlooking the countryside views across open farmland towards the ‘Chiltern Hills’. There is a large double bedroom, again with open beams and countryside views, next to this is the family bathroom. Cots are available on request.There are many places to visit and plenty of things to do in and around the local area. We have Whipsnade Wild Animal Park, only 10 minutes drive in the car and the beautiful National Trust ‘Ashridge Forest’ and ‘Ivinghoe Beacon’ with fantastic views and many different walks for all abilities. The centuries old village of ‘Aldbury’, just below Ashridge, with it’s famous ‘stocks’ is well worth a visit.Woburn’ is only a short distance (15 minutes), a very old town with lots of eating places aswell as Woburn Safari Park and Woburn Abbey. There is a real treat for the whole family (only a 5 minute drive) at ‘Mead Open Farm’ where there are lots of animals to see and feed, an indoor playbarn, tractor and trailer rides and various activities throughout the day to keep the children happy. ‘Old Warden Park’ near Biggleswade hosts the ‘world famous’ collection of historic aeroplanes & vehicles, ‘Bird of Prey’ centre and the ‘Swiss Gardens’. Milton Keynes (20 minute drive) offers an abundance of recreational facilities, shopping, skiing & snowboarding at ‘Xscape’ and a multi-screen cinema, museums, galleries and theatre, water sports and cycling at Willen Lake. There are a number of golf courses open to non-members and health and leisure centres all within a few miles.
Both cottages have been converted to a very high standard ( we are waiting for inspection), they are very well-equipped with gas central heating throughout. Each cottage has it’s own private garden area with furniture and plenty of car-parking space. Available all through the year.

Leighton Buzzard is a Bedfordshire town with a country feel. In Leighton Buzzard self-catering accommodation is likely to be in cottage or apartments. This town has plenty of facilities that you may decide to take advantage of when enjoying a cottage holiday. Within the town there are a number of shops, pubs and a leisure centre with a swimming pool. On the edge of the town you can find Ouzel Meadows with its 34 acres of meadow walks or you may want to visit Stockgrove Country Park with its 40 acres of parklands and lake. You can also enjoy walks along the Grand Union Canal at Linslade. One attraction that may truly appeal to those on family self catering breaks is the Leighton Buzzard Railway where you can catch a ride on a steam train.
There are also a number of great attractions within easy driving distance of the town. Gullivers Theme Park is again likely to appeal to those with families. Bletchley Park is just 30 minutes drive away and is a fascinating place to visit with its code-breaking history. More country walks and stunning countryside are to be found at the Dunstable Downs near Dunstable. Bedfordshire offers some stunning countryside. Over the border in Buckinghamshire you may want to visit Stowe Landscape Gardens and Waddesdon Manor with its grand stately house, walks and landscaped gardens. We recommend doing your research before booking your cottage break to find the things to do and places to go that best suit your needs and interests.
Leighton Buzzard also has excellent transport links, you can use the train service and be in London in just 45 minutes. Leighton Buzzard has plenty to see and do whether you are looking for a relaxed country cottage break or an action packed self-catering stay.
