Dartmouth is a picture perfect town, positioned on a hillside by the River Dart Estuary. The area by the river is particularly pretty and the town is sheltered by various hills which all add to its appeal. Located near to the coast, a cottage holiday in Dartmouth may appeal to those looking to stay in an attractive town with excellent facilities near to the Devon coastline.
Enjoy strolling along Dartmouth’s narrow streets on a cottage break and discover a variety of independent shops, boutique shops, cafes, restaurants and galleries. Equally enjoyable is time down by the river, just taking it easy. Boat trips, fishing and sailing are popular activities on offer in this part of Devon.
There is no shortage of things to see and do in this part of the West Country and there should be something to suit all tastes. Top family attractions in the area include Totnes Rare Breeds Farm, Pennywell Farm and Woodlands Family Theme Park. Those with an avid interest in history can choose from the National Trust’s Greenway, where Agatha Christie lived, Coleton Fishacre House & Gardens, Dartmouth Castle or the Golden Hind Museum Ship at Brixham. For those who want to take in the scenery at a relaxed pace then there is a steam train which runs along the English Riviera Geopark coastline from nearby Paignton.
Keen walkers should enjoy walking around town or join the South West Coast Path for footpaths along the coastline.
