Rossnowlagh is a charming seaside village in the northern part of the Republic of Ireland in County Donegal. The main draw to this gorgeous settlement is its incredible three kilometre stretch of golden sandy beach, which is a hot spot for tourists and provides many different activities for all who visit. If you are looking for a fun packed coastal self-catering holiday then a stay in Rossnowlagh could be perfect for you.

About Cottage Breaks in Rossnowlagh

The beach here is perfect for families as children can play in the calm sea and the soft sand, and there are also lots of places to eat and stroll by, soaking up the wonderful, vibrant atmosphere. Those who are looking for a more active time on the beach can surf, fly kites or hire a boat, and there is no better place to do so than in the quaint Irish village of Rossnowlagh.

There are a lot of tasty eateries in the village to discover on a cottage holiday, several overlooking the beach and Donegal Bay. One of these is the Smuggler’s Creek Inn Restaurant and Bar which is nestled on the cliff by the sea. Serving succulent dishes such as fresh sea food in an authentic and rustic setting, with the serene sound of live music as an accompaniment, this restaurant is one of the delights of Rossnowlagh and is recommended if you are staying in the area.

There are also lots of shops in the area to discover on a self-catering break such as the Thatch Tea House serving comforting mugs of warm, steaming beverages, and the Donegal Historical Society Museum is located here as well. This museum is home to a small collection of interesting artefacts and information for those who have a love for history, including old Irish musical instruments. History enthusiasts will also be curious to visit the remains of Kilbarron Castle which can be found along the cliff-side.

Rossnowlagh is a bit of a cultural hub, and there are plenty of exciting events happening in the village throughout the year that you may be lucky enough to catch when holidaying here. One of these is the Inter-Counties Surfing contest which is the longest-running of its kind in Ireland, having been held annually since 1969! Held later in the year in either September or October, this competition sees the two counties of Donegal and Waterford, battling it out on the waters to win prizes and just generally taking part in a brilliantly fun contest for the local communities!

Rossnowlagh is simply wonderful if you wish to get away on a self-catering beach holiday and experience beautiful weather, friendly people, sumptuous food and above all, one of the best beaches in Europe, let alone Ireland.

Whether you choose to book a holiday cottage in Rossnowlagh, an apartment, a lodge or another type of self-catering holiday accommodation, we hope you have your best holiday yet in Donegal.
