Machroes Cottage on the Llyn Peninsula in North Wales would tick many boxes for a good coastal holiday. The scenery is to die for; the cottage overlooks Machroes Beach and Bay with a backdrop of Snowdonia’s mountains.

This holiday home is a bungalow with all accommodation on the one floor. Several stone steps lead up to the front door. There are three bedrooms and the property sleeps up to six people. A nicely proportioned sitting room has huge glass doors overlooking the bay. The doors open out onto a terrace where you will find a garden table and chairs, perfect for lazy lunches or somewhere to watch the sun go down over the sea. This room is furnished in neutral colours, it has soft comfortable sofas, television in the corner, a colourful rug on the floor. The sofa and arm chair are in shades of cobalt blue which adds vibrancy to the room. This colour is echoed in the lampshade and pictures that adorn the walls.

One corner of the sitting room houses a dining area with a table and chairs to seat up to six guests. A smart Shaker-style kitchen is very well equipped for any cooking that you might wish to do during your holiday. A range cooker offers a double oven and hob, there is a dishwasher and plenty of kitchen tools to make meal preparation and serving easy.

The main bedroom is a spacious king-size which has doors that open out onto the balcony. This bedroom has its own very smart all suite shower room with a heated towel rail. The second bedroom is also king-size and is furnished with bedside tables and a couple of chests of drawers. The third bedroom is a long twin bedroom with a bed at either end. The decor is in sleep inducing gentle shades of blue; very pretty and tranquil.

Behind the bungalow is a bright and sunny extension with windows in the roof that allow the light to stream in.  Part of this is a utility room for the washing machine and tumble dryer, the other section is a sun room with a tiled seating area with a couple of rattan chairs and a table. It is a pleasant place to sit and read a book quietly. There are lawned gardens to the front of the bungalow and a paved area at the back furnished with rattan seating a corner where a barbecue stands.  

The house has broadband, and parking spaces the two vehicles. Groups with a young baby could request a high chair and travel cot to be supplied prior to arrival. Please note that travel cots are only suitable up to about 8 months.

Machroes beach is a short walk away, which is perfect for any family with young children because it makes it easy to transport any sun beds or windbreaks down to the beach. A beach holiday for children entails buckets and spades, a picnic, beach towels, sun cream and various other items. Bring a wheeled trolley to pack all your beach essentials and it won’t be far to drag it downhill.

Any golfers in the group may wish to pay a visit to the Abersoch Links Golf Club. There is also a sailing club and opportunities for boating and boat trips. The town of Abersoch is the nearest location for shops, eateries, including a fish and chip shop. You may wish to pay a visit to the RNLI lifeboat station to show the children how that operates.
