The city of Chester sits close to the north Wales border in Cheshire, north west England, south of Liverpool and Ellesmere Port but still within driving distance of the urban sprawl of Manchester and Warrington.
An interesting former Roman town to explore, Chester is an excellent location for short or weekend breaks. Visit Chester Cathedral with its rambling cloisters, walk the most complete historic city walls, see the castle and largest Roman ampitheatre in the UK.
For longer periods, Chester is ideally located for forays into the Lake District, northern England or north Wales.
A friendly and bustling English market town, it has many timbered Tudor style buildings and an olde worlde atmosphere. It’s a wonderful place to visit for anyone interested in old buildings and English history.
Chester dates back to Roman times. Visitors can walk around the walls and old town; there are boat trips on the River Dee, bus tours, walking tours, ghost trail, the Dewa Roman Experience (similar to the one in York), Chester Cathedral, Castle, historic Crown Courts and plenty of other things for tourists to do and see.
The Chester Racecourse offers some excitement for those who enjoy horse racing.
Come to Chester for a good day or night out. The shopping is excellent and can be combined with lunch in one of the numerous cafés or restaurants.
It’s a great destination for Stag and Hen parties because there is a so much to do at all times of day and night in a small area that you can cross on foot.
