Looking for a new place to visit on holiday in England? How about a country break near Barnwell in Northamptonshire?
Barnwell is a village in the county of Northamptonshire close to the town of Oundle, and lies along the banks of the picturesque River Nene. The settlement is perfect for a relaxing self-catering cottage break with friends and family as there are lots of attractions nearby to explore and keep you busy, and you can soak up the lovely atmosphere of Barnwell by discovering the delights of this lovely area. Within Barnwell there are two churches, as the village was actually formed of two separate settlements. These churches both date from the 13th century and are a focal point to Barnwell. There is also a friendly and cosy pub, The Montagu Arms, which is housed within a beautiful thatched building and is a great place to have a meal or a drink in the evenings under its Olde Worlde wooden beams. A great place to visit for a day is the Barnwell Country Park in Rockingham Forest. With wooded areas, vast grasslands, serene meadows and idyllic willow-fringed lakes, it is a beautiful place to take loved ones to for a relaxing stroll or a picnic by the lake, and there are lots of gorgeous water birds that reside in this country park. With walking paths, stone trails which are perfect for prams and wheelchairs, and places to go fishing or to feed the birds, the Barnwell Country Park is an enchanting place to spend a pretty summer’s afternoon. Another place to see that is unfortunately closed to the public is the ruins of Barnwell Castle which was built in around 1266. This private property is a Grade I listed building that can be seen from the road. Barnwell has lots of cottages available to rent on a self-catering basis, where you can unwind after a day of exploring this quaint village with friends and family.
