The ancient market town of Oundle is located towards the north east of the county of Northamptonshire and is a wonderful and charming place full of history and stunning architecture, perfect for renting a self-catering cottage with friends and family to explore this part of England. Sitting on the banks of the River Nene, Oundle has so much history to soak up, and has been home to a grammar school since 1465. There are ancient public houses in the village as well, such as the 14th century coaching inn of The Ship Inn, plus several more, and there are also a few churches dotted around the settlement which are all stunning structures.
There are a lot of fun things to do in Oundle, besides taking strolls along the picturesque river with loved ones. The Oundle Carnival takes place each year in the village, as does the Oundle Festival of Literature. The most popular, however, is the Oundle International Festival which is an annual music festival and summer school for young organists. There are events and a programme for the public to see wonderful performances.
There is a market place in Oundle where a farmers’ market is held once a month, as well as a traditional local market each week. There are also local shops so that you can purchase food and other goods that you need whilst staying in your self-catering cottage.
Oundle is just 10 miles from the town of Corby which makes a great day trip for if you want to see a more bustling part of Northamptonshire.
