There are also plenty of fascinating historic sites to visit, such as Raby Castle with its stunning park and gardens, as well as Barnard Castle. You can explore castles, look around art galleries and venture inside marvellous manor houses all within easy reach for day trips from Foxes Den. And don’t worry if you’re more interested in scenic walks around pretty natural settings – there are plenty of those too, such as the Teesdale Way footpath. Also nearby is Staindrop, another pretty village, and Durham, a historic city with a wonderful array of unique cafes and a majestic cathedral and castle of its own.
