The Holiday Home: About Dons Barn
Romantic Retreat with Character and Beautiful Views near Lavenham
Part of the old Grove Farm; Dons Barn was originally the Winnowing Barn and dates back to the 1700’s. Downstairs you can relax in the massive Kilim covered Knoll sofa enjoying the many original features of this stylish and very cosy cottage, features like the original Suffolk brick floor and the old millstones that are now used as the table and the hearth for the roaring log burning stove. Upstairs the roof is open to the beams and there are lovely views over the orchard garden into the sunset through the oak and glass wall which covers this side of the barn.
This is the ideal place to come and unwind because it is so gorgeous and cosy. Once inside you won’t want to go out but if you do there are lovely walks all around and a rash of wonderful pubs and restaurants.
The cycle route passes by the cottage and we supply bikes for free and you can even hire a canoe from us to explore the beautiful river Stour where Constable painted ‘The Haywain’; probably England’s most famous landscape painting.
