The Holiday Home: About Dons Barn

Romantic Retreat with Character and Beautiful Views near Lavenham

Part of the old Grove Farm; Dons Barn was originally the Winnowing Barn and dates back to the 1700’s. Downstairs you can relax in the massive Kilim covered Knoll sofa enjoying the many original features of this stylish and very cosy cottage, features like the original Suffolk brick floor and the old millstones that are now used as the table and the hearth for the roaring log burning stove.

Upstairs the roof is open to the beams and there are lovely views over the orchard garden into the sunset through the oak and glass wall which covers this side of the barn.

This is the ideal place to come and unwind because it is so gorgeous and cosy. Once inside you won’t want to go out but if you do there are lovely walks all around and a rash of wonderful pubs and restaurants.

The cycle route passes by the cottage and we supply bikes for free and you can even hire a canoe from us to explore the beautiful river Stour where Constable painted ‘The Haywain’; probably England’s most famous landscape painting.

Dons Barn has all the optional extras you would expect from a 4 star cottage. Please visit our home website for masses of more pictures, prices, online availability and a wealth of local information.

Nestled by beautiful Suffolk countryside and conveniently close to the charming medieval village of Lavenham, just 2 hour’s drive from London, there are 6 charming cottages that make up the old Grove Farm.

With an ideal location for exploring the many charming villages to be found in the Suffolk countryside and even for enjoying days out by the seaside, book your stay and look forward to discovering some of the best of Suffolk on a cottage break at Don’s Barn. Suffolk has some wonderfully unspoilt rural areas, ideal for gentle strolls and relaxing bike rides down country lanes, along with wonderful villages with splendid historical buildings which stem from the wealth from the days of the Wool Trade.

To welcome you at the property, guests are greeted with a ‘Welcome Pack’ complete with  ingredients for a proper English breakfast along with milk, real coffee and tea. Numerous guides and maps are available for walking and cycling in this glorious part of Suffolk.  There is also special folder giving you hints and tips for discovering this lovely area including beautiful Constable Country and this includes a list of all the best pubs, restaurants, antique fairs, trips to the sea side and places to visit. For those who love to relax in the countryside, walk, cycle, horse ride, visit pretty historical villages, play golf, canoe, eat out and drink in great pubs or just relax in style, this is the place to stay.

Bikes are provided free and canoes are available to explore the River Stour, which meanders through countryside that the great English landscape artist John Constable made famous. The mature Orchard gardens lead directly onto the fields and guests are welcome to use the BBQ’s that we provide. Short breaks and weekend getaways are welcome all year. Pets are Welcome.

Dons Barn is a 4 Star English Tourism Council Rated and a Gold Award Winning property. See our own website for full details, prices and online availability.
