The village of Welford-in-Avon lies 4 miles to the south west of
Stratford upon Avon, the home of all things Shakespeare. It is a pretty village with numerous thatched cottages and half-timbered period houses that give it much character. A focal point is the red, white and blue maypole on the village green, used in traditional English May day celebrations. It is the tallest maypole in England at 20 metres. There is also a general store, excellent butchers, garage, three public houses and a golf course (10 min walk). The cultural centre of Stratford-upon-Avon which is just a short drive away has a fine range of restaurants, shops, leisure facilities and is the home of the world famous Royal Shakespeare Company.

The village pubs which are always welcome during a self catering holiday for meals and a night out. One of the pubs in the centre of the village has been named after Shakespeare. The parish church of St. Peter is worth a look.
The village offers a quiet location, a very short drive (almost walking distance) from Stratford upon Avon and may suit people who wish to visit Stratford and yet would like a peaceful location to stay where a good night's sleep is assured and there are no traffic and parking problems.
Footpaths and trails lead in various directions from the village through the Warwickshire countryside. A riverside walk along the Avon leads to a weir and lock. Other walks lead to nearby villages such as Weston-on-Avon and Barton.
