About Cottage Breaks in Miltown Malbay
The town has an interesting history, beginning in 1800 when people first settled here. Thankfully it is not 1888 anymore and many happy shopkeepers and pub landlords will greet visitors with warm, welcoming smiles, and after settling down into one of its charming pubs, you will soon start to feel like a local!
Located within Miltown Malbay is the village of Spanish Point, which is home to several holiday homes and cottages. Situated on the beach, it makes a lovely, relaxing place for a break and is ideal for keen swimmers as well as surfers due to the type of waves that can be seen here. The name ‘Spanish Point’ is historically significant because it refers to ship wrecking of ships from the Spanish Armada in 1588 which can be found 2.5km off the coast of Miltown Malbay. These ships were wrecked due to tragic storms, and those who didn’t drown in the sinking of their ships and who made it onto Irish land were then executed by Boethius Clancy, the High Sheriff of Clare and Sir Turlough O’Brien of Liscannor.
