People going on holiday with dogs tend to look for destinations where they can walk with their dog, also for places where dogs can be allowed off lead. Certain beaches, usually the natural undeveloped ones allow year round access for dogs. The beaches and nature reserves edging the Isle of Anglesey are very good in this respect and there are lots of opportunities for doggy paddles in the sea. It is also worth bearing in mind that the very dog friendly rural cottage complexes often have a field dedicated to dogs, a place where they can run free.
A number of tourist destinations are perfectly suited to holidays with dogs because consideration has been given to their well-being, bowls of drinking water are kindly left beside doors and dogs are allowed inside the accommodation, eateries and occasionally shops. There is a general acceptance in the Cotswolds of people with their dogs and combined with the chance to see picture box villages and outstanding countryside, the Cotswolds are a magnet for pet-friendly luxury breaks.
Many areas of outstanding natural beauty include nature reserves. The Suffolk coast has lengthy stretches of wetland and rough terrain which is wonderful when walking with dogs. Again, care must be taken during the bird nesting season. Suffolk is especially good for pet-friendly luxury cottages to rent for weekend breaks. There is a large number of charming rural retreats that sleep two people – ideal as breaks for couples with their dogs. The Suffolk Heritage Coast, Minsmere RSPB nature reserve, the beaches near Corton and riverside walks in Woodbridge are all superb places to stay with a dog. Constable Country villages are another attractive 5 star cottage holiday option with dogs. The villages offer good sightseeing and up-market facilities. Lavenham in Suffolk is another 'must do' location on the dogs-welcome cottage list.
