If you're planning to visit Wales for a holiday or short break, it's worth spending a little time walking in the Clwydian Hills in north east Wales, near Loggerheads. The Clwydian hills, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, stretch all the way from the Dee estuary in the east to the Vale of Clwyd in the west. A climb to the tops of hills is rewarded with fabulous views of Snowdonia and the Dee estuary.
The sixty two square miles is an expanse of heath and farmland with limestone escarpments and coppiced woodland in green low lying areas. It's a peaceful location with sheep dotted about the hillsides. There are lots of paths and trails for walkers as well as circular walks for anyone wanting a leiseurely afternoon stroll. The Clwydian hills are within easy driving distance of Chester and Prestatyn. There is a country park at Loggerheads, at the southern end of this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
