When holidaying with your young family, you want to make life as easy as possible and book family friendly self-catering accommodation. Some cottages specialise in offering breaks for families and may have all important features like cots, high chairs, stairgates and for slightly older children, bunk beds. Before booking a stay, it’s essential to double check with owners or agencies in order to get assurance that the property fully meets your needs.
Staying somewhere with those special family friendly features can really help take any stress out of your holiday and with the purpose of getting away being to relax, it really is essential. If you have young toddlers, be sure to verify that the cottage that interests you is safe for young children before booking. Cottages next to streams or by water may not be a good choice whereas a family-friendly cottage with an enclosed garden could be just perfect. Even with these types of cottages, do check to make sure that the property is fully family friendly as some may have ponds or other features which mean that they are not ideal for those with young children.
Some country cottages will have large enclosed gardens for the children to run around, swings, slides, swimming pools and so on. If you have toddlers and very small children you may also like to take a look at the self-catering holiday cottages listed on the toddler-friendly self-catering page.
Another useful feature to have in a holiday cottage is a conservatory. This doubles as an additional sitting room and provides that extra space for children, sleeping dogs or dozing adults. View country cottages with a conservatory. Most of the holiday homes featured in this section are luxurious.

Self-catering cottage holidays in the Midlands
Nottinghamshire is not the county that immediately springs to mind when considering holiday destinations, but anywhere and everywhere is an excellent destination if you want something more than just sitting on a beach. Nottinghamshire offers many home-grown attractions like Sherwood Forest and Robin Hood country, wonderful parks, interesting market towns like Newark with antique shops and open markets, Southwell with the Minster and newly opened National Trust workhouse with a personal and electronic headset guided tour.
