Blackgang is in the south west part of the island, the quieter more rural part where there is a coastal path and plenty of cross country trails for walkers. The Isle of Wight is a lovely peaceful holiday destination that would suit families and anyone who enjoys walking, cycling, beaches and a gentle relaxing break.
One of the attractions in the area is the Blackgang Chine Park which has a certain charm and offers real value for money for families with young children. Entrance fees allow for daily visits for an entire week so that it is possible to return to enjoy the activities on offer for short durations if desired. The park is not a theme park in the same sense as Alton Towers or Thorpe Park but what it offers is an opportunity for children to use their imagination and old fashioned play. There is also plenty for adults to see in the form of historic exhibits on the theme of 'how we used to live', a cinema which provides a very good overview of the Isle of Wight and entertaining comments all around the park. The site is on a hillside and provides a good walk, restaurant and cafes. There is a rollercoaster, a pirate themed ride and a very scary huge water slide but the best (in my view) entertainment is provided by twin pirate ships equipped with water cannon that fire real water from one ship to the other, the snakes and ladders slides, the maze and the hilarious pet shop.
Walking the coastal path is a chance to fill the lungs with sea air and enjoy the marvellous views.
Rent a cottage for a self catering holiday in or near Blackgang for a relaxing country break not too far from the lovely seaside town of Ventnor. Nowhere on the island is very far by car and it is highly recommended for family self catering.
