Perhaps the following destinations may just whet your appetite:

The Blackwater Way – 168 km. Walking, hiking and even rock climbing are popular pursuits throughout the Southwest of Ireland. The area offers a spectacular selection of gentle, or more challenging routes, the chance to spot a wide variety of animal and bird species as well as ancient archaeological sites. Whatever your level of fitness you can easily find a suitable path or trail.

Remember when planning a self catering walking holiday, particularly when travelling as part of a group, check with others re their fitness level and what level of exercise would meet the needs of the group.  You may need to compromise and all take a slower pace to meet the needs of those who are less fit or alternatively if your group is large you may want to split in to two grounds, one who plans to take the walking easy and gently and another who are fit and keen to complete the walk at a faster pace.

One thing is for sure, whether you decide to enjoy walking in the Irish Lakelands, Ireland's South East, Ireland's Mid West or the South West of Ireland, Ireland is a country with an amazing diversity of scenery and wealth of places to discover on a self catering holiday.
