Cark-in-Cartmel is Easy to Enjoy During a Self-catering Holiday.

Close to Morecambe Bay, we find Cark-in-Cartmel, a quiet attractive village in Cumbria. Situated between the pretty villages of Allithwaite and Cartmel, Cark-in-Cartmel has its own railway station and a number of interesting attractions are nearby.

Half a mile away, the townspeople of Flookburgh hold a Charter Festival every year in June to celebrate the town receiving a royal charter in 1278. Flookburgh also hosts the yearly Cumbria Steam Gathering in July. Kids will love Ducky’s Park Farm, where you can pet the animals, meet Dilly Duck and play on the trampolines and in the soft play area. Follow the farm trail, check out the coin operated driving school and have a picnic or eat in the diner.

Also half a mile away, Holker Hall is a large grand house, making a great day out for all the family. Rooms include the Billiards Room, the Library and the Wedgwood Bedroom. Beautiful gardens are imaginatively designed and spring is especially welcome, when the rhododendrons bloom. Holker Hall plays host to the annual Holker Garden Festival, which features show gardens and floral displays, demonstrations, locally produced food and live music.

Cark-in-Cartmel is two miles from the village of Cartmel, where visitors are recommended to see the 12th century Cartmel Priory, feted for its stained glass windows and contemporary sculptures. Also visit the Cartmel Priory Gatehouse, which houses the Heritage Centre, with displays about the village and the monastery.

Cartmel is also noteworthy for its steeplechase race meetings on what is one of the smallest but prettiest courses in England. Perhaps an idea for Stag or Hen groups?

If you want a truly spectacular view and you crave an adrenaline rush, Skydive North West is the place to be. Located at Cark Airfield near Flookburgh, you can choose from three different courses, one of which is training to do a tandem skydive.

If your tastes run to something more refined, the nearby town of Grange-over-Sands is a relaxing place for admiring the views over Morecambe Bay and watching the world go by from quaint tea rooms. You can amble along the traffic-free promenade, enjoy a brass band concert at the bandstand, or choose from the long or shorter version of the town trail.

So, Cark-in-Cartmel is ideally placed for so many activities, attractions and events. It may not be easy to pronounce, but it’s easy to have a good time there! Don’t forget to try the local delicacy, which are potted shrimps caught in Morecambe Bay.
