Less than two miles away is Wembury Beach. Popular with rock poolers and surfers, Wembury has won an award for its clean and relatively shallow waters. Look out to the Mewstone, an offshore island once a smugglers refuge and a prison and visit the historic beachside café, formerly a mill. Mothecombe beach is privately owned and is only open to the public on Wednesdays and weekends. The beach is maintained by the estate and has been rewarded by the Marine Conservation Society for its efforts. Dogs are allowed on certain parts of the beach that also has a car park, café and toilet facilities.
