The village of Gargrave sits on the south western edge of the Yorkshire Dales, on the A65 between Skipton and Coniston Cold. The Pennine Way skirts the northern reaches of the village and the Springs Canal, on its way south. Because of the hundreds of walkers passing through, Gargrave has more than its fair share of tea rooms, restaurants and pubs for a village of its size.  As one would expect from such a holiday hub in the Yorkshire Dales, there is a good selection of self-catering accommodation to rent for weeks at a time or short breaks. The River Aire splits the village into northern and southern halves.  There are pleasantly green parklands on either side of the river adjoining South Street and Mill Lane where people walk their dogs and sit on the benches when the sun shines.  Another attractive place to walk is alongside the canal towpath where there are often richly coloured canal boats to watch navigating the locks. There are more grassed areas in various parts of the village giving it a spacious country atmosphere.  

Consisting of little more than a few streets , Gargrave is a traditional Yorkshire village of residential roads, a high street and offices.  The original buildings are of stone although the council estates and modern apartment blocks are matched in a similar hue.  It is well served for amenities which include a garden centre, Premier Inn and plenty of holiday cottages.

Gargrave Railway Station is on Church Street south of the village.  Gargrave is a very good place to stay for a holiday touring the Yorkshire Dales. Situated right on the southern edge of the Dales in Lower Airedale,  many of the best attractions are within an easy drive including Bolton Abbey, Malham Cove and Tarn, Grassington and of course the superb countryside of the Dales.
