Llanfairfechan is a charming coastal town in the north Welsh borough of Conwy that is a gateway to Snowdonia National Park. The sandy beaches and sweeping views over the ocean make this lovely town an ideal place in which to take a seaside break, and there is plenty to see and do in the vicinity. With just about half of the population of Llanfairfechan being able to speak the Welsh language, this settlement has a very distinct ‘Welsh’ feel about it and you will simply love being around gorgeous scenery and friendly locals. The spectacular Aber Falls are just three miles from Llanfairfechan, and taking a trip to see these incredible waterfalls is a must if you are enjoying a cottage stay in this town. Just south of the village of Abergwyngregyn in the Gwynedd area of Wales, Aber Falls are 120 feet tall and cascade over towering rocks which are a part of the Carneddau mountain range. There are many footpaths that guide visitors to the waterfall and you may even be able to swim in the plunge pool during warmer, summer days. There are picnic benches which are fantastic for when you have packed a tasty lunch for you and your family to enjoy while looking at this awe-inspiring sight for a wonderful day trip. If you do not pack a picnic however, visitors can purchase delicious food at cafes in the Abergwyngregyn village itself.

Llanfairfechan is home to an exciting carnival which takes place during the first Saturday of July. This carnival includes a brilliant parade down the promenade as well as stalls, competitions and fun activities, and if you happen to be in the town during the carnival then you certainly won’t be able to resist it!

This lovely Victorian holiday resort has ocean waters that are perfect for swimming in when the weather is good and the long promenade is lined with stone shops and cafes. There are plenty of walking and cycling trails that can be taken in Llanfairfechan including Terrace Walk along the seafront which gives panoramic views of the incredible coastline and the ancient Roman Road which is a portion of a historical trail and must be done if you are a keen walker. Known as the Llanfairfechan Trail, it will take you through incredible scenery of farm land and trickling streams, as well as by the foothills of the Carneddau Mountains. All this makes Llanfairfechan an appealing place for a self-catering walking or cycling holiday. What’s more, with Snowdonia National Park close at hand, this really is a wonderful area for those who love the great outdoors.
