This authentic and typically Welsh settlement is lovely for relaxing cottage breaks in this quaint and scenic part of Wales. Trawsfynydd offers all the main amenities that visitors look for when going on holiday such as a grocery shop, cafe and a cosy local pub. If you love the great outdoors and taking walks amongst beautiful scenery then you will love the serene Lake Trawsfynydd, one of the most popular attractions in this part of Wales. The lake is huge, the third largest in Wales, in fact and and is a wonderful place to visit.

What Trawsfynydd offers for Cottage Breaks

There are plenty of attractions to discover on a cottage holiday just a short walk or drive away from the village, including the fascinating Crawcwellt which is an Iron Age settlement just two miles from Trawsfynydd and Tomen y Mur, an incredible Roman Fort three miles away. If you love soaking up history when on a self-catering break then these nearby sites must be visited when in this part of Wales.

As Trawsfynydd is close to the popular mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog which is located within the Snowdonia Mountains, it can easily be visited on a day trip from the village and there is plenty to see here including the Llechwedd Slate Caverns. The heritage railway of Ffestiniog is also located here, and you can hop aboard back in time on this incredible steam train which will take you through forestry and past mountains on a fascinating journey that is fun for the whole family.

The old market town of Dolgellau is a fifteen minute drive from Trawsfynydd and makes for a wonderful day out when enjoying a stay in a holiday cottage in the village. Perched on the pristine banks of the River Wnion, there are lots of walking routes and trails here to be taken through the mountains of Snowdonia National Park including the Cader Idris Mountain. Climbing to the summit of Cader Idris will give you spectacular views over the surrounding countryside and there are many designated walking and cycling trails that will guide you along the way. Whilst in Dolgellau we recommend that you pop in to the local tourist information office to pick up free leaflets on attractions available locally.
