A summer holiday cottage break in Wales can be truly magnificent. Summer is undoubtedly the best season to holiday in Wales and the time with the greatest chance of blue skies and warm sunny days. School holidays run from mid July until early September and send the cost of holiday lettings soaring because of the high demand by families. If you can, book a country cottage in Wales during June or early July to enjoy lower rental rates, less holiday traffic on the roads and fewer children around creating noise.

Reasons for booking a cottage in Wales for a summer break

Wales’ natural assets, its beaches, coastline and mountains attract holidaymakers in their thousands. The coastal path stretches in a semi-circle around Ceredigion Bay and is intersected by rivers near Porthmadog, Llandanwg (near Shell island), Barmouth and Aberdovey where tourist centres have become established.

The beaches all around the coast are excellent, some are generous stretches of sand, others shingle. As one would expect, bathers and the bucket and spade crews are out in force on hot sunny days, digging up the beach, endlessly and fruitlessly carrying water from the sea to fill up moats in the sand. And everyone is happy and contented. The old-fashioned entertainment is still best for family seaside holidays. Ideally, for simply practical reasons, it is best to try to book a family holiday cottage as near the beach as possible in Wales.

Holidays in Wales have to include the magnificent scenery to be found in the countryside; the Pembrokeshire, Brecon Beacons and Snowdonia national parks are wonderful places to be when the sun shines.

Who can fail to be delighted at the sight of the Snowdonian mountain range on the horizon or its coastal castles. The centuries of defending Wales has resulted in impressive tourist attractions of Caernarfon Castle, Harlech Castle, Criccieth, Caerphilly, Beaumaris on the Isle of Anglesey and many others that now entertain and inspire summer visitors.

We cannot promise you a castle to rent or even holiday apartments in a castle, but do browse our list of holiday accommodation for summer weeks and short breaks in Wales. You will be delighted with what you find.
