About Doe Lea for Cottage Holidays

Doe Lea is a small village situated on the A617 which connects with the nearby the M1 Motorway, between Chesterfield and Mansfield.  The Miner’s Welfare indicates its mining heritage. The red brick housing built over the decades is arranged in neat roads that branch in a southerly direction off of Mansfield Road. A handful of shops supply the essentials.

A good place for a holiday with cycling

The River Doe Lea runs past the western side of the village. A hard surface nature/cycle trail follows the northern edge of the village then continues along the river. It meets a nature reserve just before Stockley where there is a pond with reed beds and good birdwatching opportunities, then blends into the Stockley Trail.  There is a surprisingly extensive cycle network between Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire so Doe Lea would be a brilliant weekend break location for anyone who likes nothing better than to pedal their way around the countryside.

Holidaymakers may like to spend half a day visiting Stainsby Mill National Trust Lakeland estate, just a short drive south of Doe Lea.
