The town’s two main attractions to discover on a cottage holiday are the award-winning Wellington Park and Wellington Monument. The park was given to the town by major town employers, bankers and clothing manufacturers the Fox family in 1903 and has been updated and improved thanks to a lottery grant. It is a most attractive and peaceful area, connecting the town to the countryside. Events are held in the park during summer and besides human visitors it also attracts much wildlife and birdlife.
Dominating the skyline above Wellington is the Wellington Memorial. The monument was constructed in honour of Arthur Wellesley the first Duke of Wellington who defeated Napoleon at Waterloo and went on to become Prime Minister.
