A fishy holiday cottage tale
A couple rented a holiday farmhouse for a fishing break. They stopped to buy fishing tackle and bait before driving on to their remote holiday accommodation on Exmoor. The wife was a little worried that the maggots might not get enough oxygen so she left the top of the box raised to allow a little air in when she places them in the refrigerator.
When the couple got up in the morning, the kitchen was swarming with maggots; they were everywhere. It took them about two hours to sweep them up with a dustpan and brush and put them back in the box, keeping the lid firmly in place this time. Every time that they returned to the kitchen, more maggots had crawled out from under the wooden skirting boards and fitted cupboards. They managed to have a good fishing holiday in Exmoor. A little time after their return home, the cottage owner asked them if they had experienced in trouble with flies because the following holidaymakers had complained about being bothered by flies.
So, when you book your self-catering accommodation in Exmoor for that fishing holiday, do keep a firm lid on your bait or you may end up with another fishing take to tell.
