It is heartwarming to arrive at your holiday cottages after a long journey to find a welcome pack of home-made cake, tea or coffee, or a bottle of wine and chocolates waiting for you. It helps set the holiday off to a good start.
It takes a little while after arrival to unpack and make oneself at home in holiday accommodation. We all like to survey our new domain, to peer into cupboards, to locate the important domestic appliances, inspect the freezer and fridge to see how much they can hold. At first, everything is unfamiliar and unless there is a good local pub, most guests would scurry off to the nearest supermarket to obtain food for the holiday. Some people are more organised than others and may have ordered a box of shopping online that is waiting for them at their cottage.
Thankfully, today’s holiday cottages are ready to move into and live as one would at home. Beds are made up, there are towels in the bathrooms and all essential items are provided for us. All that self-catering guests need to add is their own food and drink which makes a cottage holiday such a relaxed choice. It can be just like living at home except in a stunning location close to the features that we have chosen which might be a beach, forest or mountain. It’s the leisure facilities that often make a holiday home that be more special; a hot tub in the garden or use of a communal swimming pool or fishing lake.
Irrespective of our choice of cottage break, we all appreciate that welcome gift and chance to sit down and enjoy a rest before beginning the unpacking.
