A good number of indepenedent shops feature in the high street. The fish and chip shops are convenient for day trippers and holidaymakers.
Heybridge Basin is to the north side of Maldon and is a good place to visit if you like boats and walks along a tow path. Bikers often arrive for breakfast or lunch at one of the pubs and walkers meet to begin a walk through the Essex countryside. There is a car park that can get busy in the height of summer.
New Hall vineyard, just south of Maldon, in Purleigh is open for wine tasting and tours. Buy a bottle or two of English wine to enjoy during your self catering holiday in Maldon.
