About Self-Catering Holidays in Hazelbury Bryan
A settlement from before the 13th century, the village is today a mix of thatched cottages, a 15th century church and modern build houses. The village has its own pub, ‘The Antelope Inn’ along with a small shop for your everyday essentials whilst on your cottage holiday. Nestling safely in the Blackmore Vale, Hazelbury Bryan is in a triangle formed by the towns of Sherborne, Blanford Forum and Dorchester.
11 miles to the west of the village is Sherborne, a historic market town with some interesting attractions worth seeing on a self-catering break. Sherborne with its fine historical buildings is a charming place to while away the time, taking it easy in one of the cafes or browsing in one of the shops. Sherborne boasts two castles, one in ruins, the other, more a large country house, very much intact and, with its 42 acres of grounds, open to the public. Sir Walter Raleigh built and lived at the latter until he was imprisoned in the Tower of London in 1617. The parish church of Sherborne had been a Saxon Cathedral and a Benedictine Abbey before in 1539 becoming an abbey church. It towers over the town’s narrow streets and is considered to be the one of most beautiful churches in the country.
Whilst in Sherborne why not visit the Tourist Information Centre on Digby Road? There you can pick up free leaflets along with resources and information on things to see and do in this part of the West Country.
