William Wordsworth, the famous poet, got married there to Mary Hutchinson in 1802 and visitors can see a copy of the marriage certificate. This medieval church has unusual stained glass windows in the nave that depict sheep, pigs and a game of cricket.
At nearby Gallows Hill Farm, the former home of Mary Hutchinson has been converted into an art gallery and exhibition space celebrating Wordsworth and his fellow poet, Samuel Taylor Coleridge. There is a shop selling souvenirs and also a tea room
The nearby golf club at Ganton is a championship course and has hosted prestigious competitions. Visitors are very welcome to book a tee time (must have a valid handicap certificate) and to make use of the bar and dining room.
